Last weekend our Explorers had the opportunity to train alongside Explorers from the Macomb Police Explorer Post #4044 at the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center (MCLETC).
The joint training event focused on interoperability, communication, and teamwork as explorers navigated several use-of-force scenarios.
By training as one team, across agencies, our Explorers learned how to adapt, support each other, and operate effectively in rapidly-evolving situations.
We’re extremely proud of the teamwork, critical thinking, and professionalism all these future leaders continue to demonstrate. 💪

Effective communication is a critical skill in law enforcement.
During our most recent meeting, Explorers participated in several practical exercises using 10-codes and the phonetic alphabet to clearly and concisely relay information. These drills emphasized accuracy, brevity, and confidence—skills that are essential in real-world situations.
Communication didn’t stop there. Explorers then put those skills to the test while working as a team to clear a large commercial structure, demonstrating the importance of clear verbal coordination, situational awareness, and teamwork in a dynamic environment.
In law enforcement, communication isn’t just talking—it’s a safety tool, a leadership skill, and a foundation for effective policing.

During our last meeting of the semester, advisors reviewed fi****ms safety, weapons handling skills, and put explorers through several hands-on scenarios that reviewed curriculum from throughout the semester.
Each scenario reinforced trust in the team and confidence in decision-making. Training like this prepares Explorers to think critically, communicate effectively, and operate safely.
Strong teams aren’t built by chance—they’re built through purposeful training and repetition. 💪

Tuesday night, Explorers received training to recognize and investigate incidents of domestic violence. During the meeting, the group discussed resources available to victims, reviewed applicable state laws, and practiced handcuffing techniques. Training culminated with scenarios where Explorers worked together as a team and applied what they learned.
