"Holiness is not something that just passively happens to us over time, like waking up one day to find our first gray hairs or skin wrinkles. From adopting Christ’s mindset towards suffering to growing in our capacity to love one another, every single command Peter gives in today’s portion of his letter requires habitual dedication to a certain way of life. Thanks be to God that He has given us the sanctifying power of the Spirit and the stabilizing hope of Christ’s return to shape our minds, enlarge our hearts, guard our souls, and direct our steps as we commit to being the holy people of a holy God. And thanks be to God that when we inevitably stumble in these commitments the Spirit and salvation remain."

Honor, Submit, Subvert | Sermons From The Table 05/04/2026

"Peter’s point is that because of their true identity in Christ, even those who are seemingly powerless wield extraordinary power by modeling Christ who used His own response to suffering as the means to conquer death, sin, and the devil. If I am secure in who I am in Christ, I can afford to honor everyone I meet, regardless of whether or not they honor me. I am free to submit for the sake of the gospel because I do so as God’s servant, and I am free to resist evil for the same reason. When the Church lives this way, she reveals the kingdom of God and exposes ungodly institutions, systems, assumptions, and allegiances for what they truly are. Honor, Submit, Subvert. That is how the upside down kingdom conquers the world."

Four Characteristics of Holiness | Sermons From The Table 04/23/2026

“Holy” is a core characteristic of who God is and who He calls us to be. How tragic, then, that it has become something of a four-letter word for some Christians through things like bad teaching or spiritual abuse. Yet, holiness is to be pursued, not feared. For believers, holiness is always rooted in hope. Yes, it requires intentionality on our part, but it is secured by the power of the Spirit. We do not have to worry and wonder what a holy God wants of us because He has given us the perfect model to follow in Jesus. And as holiness works itself out in us, it reproduces God’s love in our midst. Who wouldn’t want to be a holy person? Who wouldn’t want to be part of a holy church?

The Good News of Peace | Sermons From The Table 04/06/2026

"You can trust God's offer of peace because He has secured it through the empowered, vindicated, and enthroned Jesus of Nazareth. Through Jesus, be reconciled to God and to one another. Through Jesus, overcome sin, death and the devil. Through Jesus, find forgiveness for all your sins and the certain promise of eternal life."
