We randomly selected an item, trinket, letter or postcard and also randomly selected recipients to mail the pieces out to.

The winner in this case would have received an old postcard inserted into a larger letter. The postcard has a rendition of the Connecticut state capitol building in Hartford on it. It would have been a 1940s or so postcard.
