Slow processing speed isn’t just a “school problem.” It can show up everywhere in life. 🧠

Kids with slow processing speed may know the answer but struggle to keep up with the pace of the world around them.

You might notice it when they:
• take longer to finish tests or homework
• need extra time to respond in conversations
• struggle to keep up in fast-paced sports
• feel overwhelmed while driving or learning to drive
• fall behind at work when tasks pile up
• get labeled as “spacey,” “slow,” or “unmotivated”

But here’s the truth: slow processing speed isn’t about intelligence. It’s about efficiency in the brain.

For Brain Awareness Week, we’re highlighting The Brain Behind the Struggle. When the brain processes information more slowly, everyday situations can feel stressful and discouraging.

The good news? Processing speed is a trainable cognitive skill. At LearningRx, our one-on-one brain training programs target the underlying skills that power learning and performance (like processing speed, attention, and working memory) so people of all ages can think faster, learn easier, and perform better.

"Hurry up!" doesn't help kids with slow processing speed move faster.

Processing speed is how quickly the brain takes in information, makes sense of it, and responds. When it’s slower, you might see:
⚡Homework that should take minutes dragging into hours
⚡Needing extra time to complete tests
⚡A child who understands the material but can’t show it
⚡Avoidance because their brain just get overloaded

Many smart kids doubt themselves or fall behind because their brain just takes longer to process.

👉But processing speed is a skill, and skills can be strengthened!

When we recognize the brain behind the struggle, we can stop pushing harder and start supporting smarter.

At LearningRx, we train skills like processing speed with targeted mental exercises that have been shown to drive improvements for kids and adults. Call us today to learn more!

Sometimes what looks like a behavior problem… is actually a brain skill problem. 🧠

When working memory is weak, kids (and adults!) may struggle to hold onto instructions, remember what they just heard, or manage their emotions when things feel overwhelming. From the outside, it can look like not listening, not trying, or overreacting. But often, it’s simply that the brain is working harder than it should.

During Brain Awareness Week, we’re highlighting The Brain Behind the Struggle, because understanding why learning and behavior challenges happen is the first step toward helping.

At LearningRx, we target the underlying cognitive skills that power learning and self-regulation, including working memory, attention, and processing speed. When those skills get stronger, everyday challenges (at school, at work, and at home) can get easier.

How would you describe your child's attitude towards learning new things?

03/17/2026

Working memory is the brain’s mental sticky note. 📝

If it’s weak, your child might:
🧠Forget multi-step directions partway through
🧠Lose their place while reading
🧠Start a math problem and forget what they were solving
🧠Get overwhelmed by tasks that feel too big or complex

To parents, it often looks like they're making "careless mistakes." But the reality is, the brain's "sticky notes" are just peeling off too quickly.

When the brain can’t hold onto information long enough to use it, frustration builds fast and kids may seem like they struggle to pay attention, when really it's weak working memory at the root.

This week we're diving into the brain behind the struggle, because when we understand the brain skills that drive the behavior and learning challenges we're seeing, we're better equipped to find the supports that are actually going to make a difference.

When you see a child who can't focus, often you jump to: "You just need to be more motivated and try harder!" But as cognitive psychologist Dr. Amy Moore shares here, attention problems aren't so straightforward.

Often what we see: the inattention, impulsivity, day-dreaming, or lack of focus...
.. is actually rooted in something much deeper.

Distractions aren't just external things we have to manage. When we understand what's at the root of our child's inability to focus or engage, we can have better understanding and tools to help them succeed.

This Week, we're unpacking The Brain Behind the Struggle. Follow along for more brain-based explanations for the challenges you or your loved ones might be facing!

When attention is weak, you might see:
👉Half-finished assignments
👉Constant redirection and reminders
👉Emotional meltdowns during homework
👉A child who seems “lazy” but isn’t

Before we label it as attitude, it’s worth asking: What if their brain is working harder than we realize and they just can't keep up?

For Brain Awareness Week, we’re pulling back the curtain on ✨the brain behind the struggle✨. When we understand the skill and what's truly at the root of the challenges our kids are facing every day, we change the way we support them.

And that changes everything.

Follow along for more brain-based insights into the biggest learning challenges we hear about from parents like you!
