Venturing was founded on February 9, 1998, 24 years ago today! Although we are one of the newest programs in the Boy Scouts of America, our histories have been tied closely together for a while! - 1935: The BSA creates “Senior Scout” divisions for boys 15+.
- 1949: The Explorer Program is created to consolidate these senior scout divisions.
- 1969: The BSA allows young women to join Explorer Posts.
- 1998: Venturing is created as a way to serve older youth specially interested in the outdoors. The old Exploring program is split into two categories: career-oriented posts transitioned into the Learning for Life program and outdoor-oriented posts transitioned into Venturing crews.
- 2014: The APLS model is created as a way to measure growth, the four Venturing ranks are introduced, and “Lead the Adventure” is established as the new Venturing motto.
- 2016: The Sea Scout program separates from Venturing.
- 2022: Today, Venturing provides leadership, adventure, service, and growth opportunities to its members nationwide!
