An important part of buying a home is figuring out your budget. Only a lender can truly tell you how big of a loan you qualify for, because of course they will be the one funding the transaction. So before you shop, you need to have your money lined up. If you skip this important step, you may find your dream home, go home to call a lender, and by the time you are pre-approved the seller may accept another offer. Another scenario is that you might find your dream home, call a lender, and find out that your credit isn’t quite where it needs to be to purchase at this time.
