This review may be a bit long, but you need to hear the truth, because the truth will set you free. So, I was a dedicated customer with Carolina Fur Dressing for 40 plus years, and even if I did try another tannery, I always had to have it redone at Carolina Fur Dressing. That’s how good they were. So, when Carolina Fur Dressing went out of business, I knew I was in trouble, and when Carolina Fur Dressing didn’t recommend a tannery, well what would you think. Although they did say if you found a tannery you like be loyal to them, like you were to us. So, I ventured out to many Tanneries, and the tanning was so horrible, and waited 9 months to boot. I got to a point that I was thinking, was I that spoiled with Carolina Fur Dressing!!!! It got so bad I stopped taken in deer, or anything that would need tanning for a whole year. I needed to find a tannery I could trust, if I was going to get back to mounting deer, or any tanning. Then I saw this full-page ad in Breakthrough Magazine, QUALITY FUR DRESSING. So, I called around to high quality taxidermist, to get some info on Quality Fur Dressing, and the response was, I never tried them, but I never heard anything bad about them. So, for me this was going to be the last straw. If this didn’t work, I was done. So, I sent them 5 W/T Deer Capes, that came out of Illinois. When I got them back, a month earlier than quoted, when I saw the box, they came in, it looked too small for all 5 capes, then I opened the box, I thought I died, and went to heaven. They were all in there, thinned and neatly folded (WET TAN) absolutely beautiful, since then I tried their try tan too, the best I have ever seen, and I would say a step above Carolina Fur Dressing, so for all the taxidermist who loved Carolina Fur Dressing, you will love QUALITY FUR DRESSING. Fred Sweisthal, President and Founder cares about every tanning piece that goes out the door, hence, standing by his name QUALITY FUR DRESSING. The best in tanning. When cow/longhorn hides are properly fleshed and frozen, they can be GORGEOUS and oh! so! SOFT! Have us flesh them for you to make it easier. To properly care for the hide before fleshing or sending it to us:

1) Make sure the entire hide can freeze - DO NOT WAD UP THE HIDE!!!
2) After skinning, get the hide into a cool space asap - if possible, lay flat
3) Get it into a freezer within hours, just like a steak, you wouldn't leave that sitting out
4) The hair is keeping the hide warm, so fold as few times as possible, and let it freeze for a couple of hours before each time you fold

These steps will help prevent the spread of bacteria, and thus the hair slipping. Also use this technique for giraffe and nilgai.
