One Hundred years ago Banting and Best discovered insulin. They sold not one vial , not one pen, not one box but the whole patent for only one dollar l! Banting said: “Insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world.” His desire was that everyone who needed access to it should get it. One Hundred years later pharmaceutical companies are making millions of dollars of profit while patients have to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket for this life saving medicine.
