Ten down and two to go, the end is definitely in sight for all of us as we get closer to the end of out 2026
winter championship series. While some of the top steps have been decided there are still others spots
that need to be discussed.

First up Touring car, while the top two steps have been secured by Jason Hunt and Brandon Gummere
the real battle is for that final step on the podium.

Holding onto the final step is Austin Belarde, utilizing the tie breaker to hold onto it over Douglas Hobbs. Austin and Douglas have been so evenly matched this season and it seems each week one gets a little edge on the other then the other comes back and scoots a little bit ahead. The last two weeks though it has been Douglas sneaking in front on the finishing order. Austin after last week commented that he would need a little more fire off speed out of his car for the main. That for the first minute he struggled to keep pace with the field. Hopefully finding something in the last two weeks he will be able to swing the tables back in his favor and hold onto that final spot on the podium for the season. As mentioned before Austin does hold the tie breaker with more events attended so he has that to work with over Douglas. On the flip side Douglas needs to keep doing what he’s been doing for the last two races and finishing in third and in front of Austin if he wants to overtake him in the season championship standings.

Moving down the order is a battle for seventh between Gabe Baxter and Ezra Palm. Ezra leading Gabe for the time being. Ezra missing the last race has given Gabe the advantage of the tie breaker. As mentioned before Ezra and Gabe are the once that bounce between the A main and the B main as a result one is usually in and one is usually out which gives them both a lot of opportunities to make the main and gain some valuable points by staying away from the chaos that is every B main on the planet.

Moving down Brent Weber is try to track down Justin Dunagan who are both trying to track down Randy Budano. These three drivers are usually comfortably in the B main. This makes for great racing for points purposes. What will throw a wrench in the mix though is a new car with only two races to go like Randy Budano has chosen to do. While it’s shown great promise in testing last weekend could this be the opening both Justin and Brent need to track Randy down and claim that season top ten? Randy currently
holds the tie breaker by two points over Brent and Brent holds the tie breaker over Justin by two points.
Yet another battle that will be decided on track with the tie breakers being so close it will definitely be determined by one good night but more likely a bad night will be the determining factor and minimizing mistakes in the final two nights of racing.

Moving down to the next two would be Dave Robinson and Jereme Spilker. In a dead heat at the moment but Jereme holds onto the lead over Dave. These two have averaged just over 89 points every night they have shown up (10th place points) which is back of the B main or the top of the C main. Biggest factor will be who gets set in the B main vs the C main. This can also be factored in based on field size the larger field yields larger mains but also a tougher field is usually included when the field is larger. Be sure to watch who is in which main for these two as that will likely factor into who leads this
battler going into the final two nights. With ten events in the books touring car still has twenty cars battling it out for a summers worth of bragging rights.

Another one that has been locked up in the top two spots is 12th scale (Dustpans). With Chris Robertson standing on top of the podium and Jason Hunt in second. The third spot on the podium is close to being settled its still has some things to factor in. McCoy Starkey will lead Brandon Gummere and Matt Mauro into the final two nights. McCoy has a four point advantage over both of them but both Matt and Brandon have the tie breaker over him. McCoy has been a model of consistency over the year though. When he shows up you can pretty much mark down he will get 98pts (Third) and at this point the worse he can do is 686pts. Which means either Matt or Brandon need to find a bit of speed to reel in McCoy one of them will need score 100 points per night while making sure McCoy finishes no better than third. Matt and Brandon both missed a huge scoring opportunity with Chris having his first DNF of the season neither one was able to score a 99 which would
of greatly helped their chances on catching McCoy.

Best battle in the class though….Father son battle. Cameron McKinney leads Chad McKinney by one point. While the points show cam in the lead, I think we all saw who gets the final say in this battle as Cam takes his dad out in the opening lap only for Chad to return the favor a few minutes later. Chad being the good sport though let Cam have the spot back and they raced it out to the end where Cam was able to hold off Papa Chad. Both cars are absolute rocket ships and more then capable of A main appearances (Take notice Brandon and Matt) but the field this close small bobbles in qualifying make it very challenging to stay in that elusive five car main event. This one could likely be decided by who makes the A and who is running the B. Especially if you have a rough B main the points swing can be drastic. Oh wait let’s throw a wrench in the mix, enter the chat Austin Belarde. With a massive second place finish last race Austin has inserted himself at the back of this battle. What Austin holds over both Chad and Cam is a tie breaker. Austin now with back to back races in the main event has rocketed himself toward the top on the speed chart. Don’t sleep on Austin to overtake both of them with his recent performance.

Final Battle is between Randy Budano, Brent Weber and Dave Robinson. Separated by three points amongst the three of them. Dave Robinson goes into the final two nights with the advantage of holding the tie breaker over both Randy and Brent. Randy holds the tie breaker over Brent by four points. Back of the B to the top of the C is where we find these guys battling it out. Dave coming off a season best result will have momentum on his side going into the final two race nights. Just finish in front of the others and that’s your recipe to either holding onto your spot or moving up the ladder.

Thirteen drivers are still racing it out for the season points for one of the original RC car classes. The
growth in this class is huge this season and is great to see more people enjoying what is probably one of the hardest classes to not only drive but also setup to go fast. Huge thanks to everyone that’s helped grow this class to what it is today. We really couldn’t have the success if it wasn’t for all the seasoned guys helping the new comers.

Come back tomorrow for two more class points break downs.
