We meet at 9am on Sundays at the Historic Central Lutheran church building at 512 S Bernard (a block from Lewis and Clark High School), and throughout the week in small groups all over the city.

Asher’s resurrection sermon this morning focused on how life is often not what we expect, “not how things were supposed to go.”

For the disciples, Christ’s death seemed all wrong, and afterward, their lives were fraught with difficulty, as were the lives of the majority of early Christians.

The point of Christianity isn’t that life will go our way but that Christ will be with us in it.

He is risen. He is risen indeed.

Meet Jeff and Cassy Benefield and their daughter, Ada.

“We met later in life and then Ada came along. She is our delight after years of empty nesting before meeting one another.”

Jeff is retired from Spokane Public Library, where he worked as a reference librarian for 39 years. Cassy works part-time as the associate editor for FāVS News (which stands for Faith and Values News). She started freelancing for them in 2018 and still writes stories and columns. She says being a religion journalist is her “dream” job. Ada started Sacajawea Middle School in 7th grade after attending Southside Christian School since she was 3 years old.

“We love to travel. Our biggest trip yet was this last summer when we went to Scotland for about two weeks. For Ada, though, the fancier the hotel room and the less amount of driving with her in the backseat, the better. We like to play games together, watch BBC period dramas. Mom and Ada like to shop, and Dad and Ada like to be silly. Mom and Dad love to read, and Dad loves the out-of-doors, while Ada enjoys playing Roblox with her friends.”

Plans/hopes for New Year? “More positivity, trust and joy despite circumstances. Continue getting to know City Covenant, which we gratefully discovered about a year and a half ago.”

Prayer requests for the New Year: “To continue to grow into our roles as ‘bigger, stronger, wiser, kinder’ parents and grow in Christ together as a family.”
