With temperatures climbing, we want to remind everyone that the heat inside and outside of your cab can become dangerous quickly. Operating a commercial vehicle requires 100% of your focus, and heat exhaustion can severely slow down your reaction times, cloud your judgment, and put your life at risk.

Please review the critical safety information below to protect yourself and your fellow drivers on the road.

🛑 Watch for the Signs of Heat Exhaustion
Heat exhaustion can sneak up on you during a long pre-trip inspection, loading/unloading, or if your cab's AC is struggling. Watch out for:

Heavy sweating and muscle cramps
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
Cold, pale, or clammy skin
Fast, weak pulse
Nausea or vomiting
Extreme tiredness or weakness

🚛 What to Do Immediately
If you start feeling any of these symptoms while driving, do not try to push through to the next truck stop. 1. Get off the road: Safely pull over at the nearest safe location or rest area. 2. Cool down the environment: Crank up the cab’s AC or move into an air-conditioned building immediately. 3. Hydrate right: Sip cool water. Avoid energy drinks, coffee, or sugary sodas, which actually dehydrate your body faster. 4. Loosen up: Take off high-visibility vests, heavy boots, or tight clothing to let your skin breathe. 5. Cool your skin: Apply a wet cloth to your head, neck, or underarms if available.

🚨 CRITICAL SAFETY NOTE: HEAT EXHAUSTION VS. HEAT STROKE If your skin becomes hot, red, and completely dry (no sweating), or if you experience confusion and slurred speech, this is Heat Stroke. This is a life-threatening medical emergency. Call 911 immediately.

💡 Quick Tips for the Shift
Pre-hydrate: Don't wait until you're thirsty to start drinking water. Keep a cooler stocked with extra water bottles in your cab.

Mind the cab: Remember, a parked truck cab can trap heat and become significantly hotter than the outside air in minutes. Never rest in a hot cab without proper idling or auxiliary AC running.

Communicate: If you are feeling unwell, radio or call dispatch as soon as you are safely parked. Your health always comes first.
