Updated 5:16pm- 5-30-24-- Mix 96.7 will be shutting down expected midnight on Friday 5-31-24. The station will be down for awhile and will be back on air with a new NPR format in the future. We thank all of our listeners who have supported the station over the many years and hope that you will continue to listen when the new owners take over.

Updated 2:50pm-- 5-14-24-- Aldi is issuing a cream cheese recall due to potential salmonella. The Germany-based grocery chain is recalling eight ounce portions of its Happy Farms Whipped Cream Cheese Spread, Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread, Cream Cheese Spread, and Strawberry Cream Cheese Spread products. The affected products were sold in Washington, DC and 28 states, and have various sell-by states between August 30 and September 15, 2024. The recall is out of an abundance of caution and is in cooperation with Schreiber Foods, Inc. Anyone who purchased the products should throw them out or return them for a refund.

Updated 2:56pm-- 5-03-24-- From the Santa Maria Police Department in regards to fatal traffic collision yesterday.
Updated Information 5/3/24 at 1300 hours

The deceased passenger was identified as Tiffany Ann Peterson 39 years from Orcutt, CA. Her father, Charles Peterson was the driver of the pickup.

The cause is still under investigation.

On Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 at 1506 hours Santa Maria Police & Fire Departments responded to a vehicle vs a Caterpillar telescoping forklift crash at Skyway Dr. and Hangar St. A small pickup truck was traveling southbound on Skyway Dr. at Hangar St. when it collided into the fork of a telescoping forklift. The collision caused major damage to the pickup truck which also collided into a fire hydrant causing water to flood the scene. The pickup's passenger suffered fatal injuries at the scene as a result of the crash. The driver was rescued by SMFD and transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. The operator of the forklift reported no injuries. SMPD Traffic Unit responded and is currently investigating this crash.

Updated 3:42pm-- 5-02-24-- From the Lompoc Police Department-On 05/02/2024, at approximately 1059 hours, LPD Detectives were conducting a follow-up in the 200B N D St. They witnessed 22 year old Emmanuel Hernandez, who is a documented Lompoc gang member. Hernandez fled from the Detectives on foot and was witnessed grabbing at his waistband. Detectives chased Hernandez but he disappeared in the 200B N C/D alley. Further investigation revealed that Hernandez was hiding in a nearby occupied dwelling. Patrol Officers arrived to assist, and the area was surrounded. A short time later, Hernandez was ordered out of the dwelling he was hiding in and arrested without incident. Detectives retraced the path Hernandez ran and located a non-serialized 9 mm privately manufactured firearm, commonly known as a "Ghost gun." Hernandez was arrested and booked at the LPD jail with no bail.

Updated 12:53pm-- 5-01-24-- The Arizona state Senate has repealed a Civil War-era abortion ban. Two Republicans joined Democrats to pass the proposal. The 1864 law that banned nearly all abortions was revived by the state's Supreme Court last month. The bill now heads to Governor Katie Hobbs' desk to be signed. With the repeal of the 1864 law, the state's 2022 law that bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy will be reinstated.
