As Smithtown Town Clerk, Vincent Puleo is well-known for integrating Town systems into the modern era, by devising a more efficient operating system and electronic records network. Puleo drastically reformed transparency, digitizing the meeting agendas, minutes and videos for all Town Boards, making the Town of Smithtown’s website a hub of public record. itle of Nesconset Fire District Fire Commissioner and is a five time chairman with the department. He has served as a Volunteer Firefighter since his Junior year at Smithtown High School, literally serving in the line of fire for nearly 45 years. Puleo’s long resume with the Nesconset Fire Department, includes six years as a line officer and as Assistant Chief, as well as two years as Chief. The 44-year member of the Nesconset Benevolent Association, also served 14 years as trustee in addition to 21 years and counting as the present treasurer. The current member of the Smithtown Chief’s Council for 32 years, was formally it’s President and has served as Treasurer from 1996 to present day. Puleo is also a member of the Smithtown Township & Suffolk County Fire District Associations, former president of the Smithtown Fire district and serves on the executive board of the Suffolk County Fire District Finance and Audit committee. Prior to his career in public service, Puleo was a celebrated restaurateur within the community, running both the front and back of house operations, for each venue, as an Owner/Manager. In 2001, the Nesconset Native sought to build his skillset, specializing in Employee benefits, at Hometown Insurance, where he acquired a unique knowledge to aid fellow Volunteer Firefighters via Length of Service Awards Pension Programs. Puleo juggles his personal time between family and caring for his community. He has served as a member of the Smithtown Rotary, where he was named the Paul Harris Fellow three times, a member of the Nesconset/St. James Rotary, where he served as a two-term President and is currently a member of the Smithtown Sunrise Rotary breakfast club. For over thirty years, Puleo has been a Nesconset Chamber of Commerce member, currently serving on the executive board since 2002. In 2006, he became a member of the Smithtown Historical Society, serving on the executive board from 2012 to 2014. For 42 years, Vincent Puleo has been on the Smithtown Elks finance and audit committee. He’s also a member of the Kings Parks Sons of Italy and was honored by the Suffolk Boy Scouts as 1990 Man of the Year. Puleo has orchestrated successful fundraising events for Veteran groups such as Operation Jake, Beeswell and Beacon House, The L.I.chapter for Autism Speaks, Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center and has been at the forefront of supporting the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park in Nesconset. Vincent Puleo has been a lifelong resident of Nesconset, married for 23 years to his wife, Beverly and is blessed with three step sons and seven grandchildren.
