Not every family photo session needs perfectly posed smiles or a drive to a new location.

Sometimes all you need is a driveway, a box of sidewalk chalk, melting ice cream cones, and kids being kids.

These images feel like summer to me. The kind of moments that are easy to overlook while you're living them but become the photos you treasure years later.

Last summer, I sent my VIP email subscribers a Summer Photo Challenge filled with simple moments to capture with their kids. This year, I decided I wanted to be the one documenting them for you, because moms deserve to be in the photos too.

We started by the water and finished on the bridge, and I loved how the whole session came together.

From downtown streets to a beautiful nature sunset, this session had a little bit of everything.
I loved the mix of casual and dressy looks, and that sky was the perfect finishing touch.

A lot of parents tell me they're worried their kids won't sit still for photos.
The truth is, they don't need to.
Some of my favorite images come from letting kids be kids and capturing all the little moments that happen along the way.
