The First Problem I Ever Faced (and What It Taught Me About Marketing)
When I was 9, I crashed a motorcycle straight into a brick wall. Spent three months in a full body cast.
I had a clear problem. And trust me, everyone around me knew what it was.
The thing is, people move when there’s a problem.
In life.
And in business.
If your marketing doesn’t clearly name the real problem your customer is facing, they’re not going to move.
They won’t take action. They won’t buy. They won’t even remember what you do.
That’s why I love using the StoryBrand framework. It forces you to clarify the problem and show how you help solve it. No fluff. No guessing.
In my Small Group Marketing Cohort, I help business owners stop writing feature lists and start telling real stories that speak to customer pain.
Because if there’s no problem, there’s no story.
And if there’s no story, there’s no sale.

I Didn’t Always Know How to Talk About What I Do
I’ve been building websites and working in marketing for a long time now. I’ve helped nonprofits, run my own business, worked inside agencies, and coached clients through a lot of confusion.
But for years, I struggled to talk clearly about what I actually do.
I used to fall into the same trap a lot of business owners do. I’d talk about tools and tactics. I’d try to sound smart. I’d over-explain. I thought if I gave people more information, they’d be more likely to say yes.
They weren’t.
It wasn’t until I found the StoryBrand framework that things started to click. It gave me language that made sense not just to me, but to the people I wanted to help.
Now, I get to walk other business owners through the same process. It’s not magic, and it’s not always easy. But it works.
Over the next week, I’m going to share seven posts that connect some of what I’ve learned about StoryBrand and messaging to pieces of my life.
There will be some honest stories. About my marriage, my kids, Bella (my Boston Terrier), and maybe that one time I crashed a motorcycle into a brick wall when I was nine.
This isn’t about being polished. It’s about being real.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re great at what you do but struggle to explain it in a way that people get, I think you’ll relate to what’s coming.
Thanks for being here.
