Hello Briggs Chaney Community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for the week of June 13.
As we plan for our Extended Year Summer program, we still have a few spots available. Please submit your application form to Ms. Cole on Monday, June 13. Information for our Extended Year Summer program is available on the school website. On Tuesday, June 14 students taking a World Language course will be taking the listening and written components of the MCPS county exam. Also, students taking Honors Geometry will be taking their MCPS county exam on Wed., June 15. Next, our final locker clean-out date is on Wed.. Students will need to bring something to school that will allow them to carry all of their personal belongings home.
Then the 8th grade Promotion Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 16 at 9am in the gymnasium. This is a reminder that each grade 8 student had 2 tickets mailed home and parents will need to bring their ticket to the ceremony in order to enter the event.
Looking ahead to next week, the last day for students will be on Monday, June 20 and we will be following a half day schedule. Dismissal for students will be at 12:30 pm. Thank you everyone for another great year at Briggs Chaney Middle School and have a great week!

Hello Briggs Chaney Community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for June 6.
On Monday, June 6 yearbooks will be distributed to students. Next, students taking a World Language course will take the oral assessment part of their semester exam during their regular scheduled class periods, starting Tuesday, June 7 and ending on Thursday, June 9. Summer school applications and funds are due by June 8. Please check the Briggs Chaney MS website or contact Charmagne Cole, Summer School Coordinator, for more information. Then on Wednesday, June 8 students that participated in the Safe School Ambassador program, will have a celebration meeting in the Media Center from 7-8pm.
As we quickly approach the end of the school year, we reserved Thursday, June 9 as a locker clean-out day. Students will need to clean out their locker and bring something to school that will help them place all of their personal belongings in to take home. Finally, Friday, June 10 is exam review day for students taking Honors Geometry and/or World Language classes. Then Friday night the 8th Grade Dinner Dance is scheduled to take place from 6:30-10:00pm. Parents, if your 8th grade child is planning on attending the 8th Grade Dinner Dance, please make transportation arrangements to have your child picked up from school by 10pm.
Looking ahead to next week, the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will take place Thursday, June 16 at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. Two tickets have been mailed to the student’s address on file. Please keep these tickets in a safe place. You must present the tickets at the time of the Promotion to enter the gym. Due to fire regulations, only two tickets per student will be issued. If you have any questions, please contact the Main Office at 301-288-8300. Also, students taking a World Language exam will take the county assessment on Tuesday, June 14. Then students taking Honors Geometry will be taking their exam on Wednesday, June 15. A copy of the semester exam schedule will be attached to the connect ed e-mail.

Permission slips and payments for 8th Grade Dinner Dance are due on May 31st! Theme is "The Great Gatsby."
***8TH GRADERS - YOUR PRESENCE IS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED!***
Permission slips and ticket orders for the 8th Grade Dinner Dance went home on Friday, 5/6. CORRECT DATE = JUNE 10th. Includes dinner from Mission BBQ, door prizes, fedoras & pearls props, photo booth, DJ and dancing. Theme is "The Great Gatsby."

Hello Briggs Chaney community, this is Mr. Krasa with your weekly update for May 23rd.
As we prepare for week 3 of PARCC testing, Grade 8 students will be taking the ELA assessment on Monday. Grade 7 students will be completing the math 7 or Algebra PARCC assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then Grade 8 will be taking the math 8 or Algebra PARCC assessment on Thursday and Friday.
Next, Outdoor Ed is scheduled to take place this week. Trailblazers will be at Outdoor Ed from Monday, May 23 to Wed., May, 25. Then our Pathfinders will be at Outdoor Ed from Wed., May 25 to Friday, May 27. A copy of our Outdoor Education packet is available on our school website and will also be attached to the Connect Ed e-mail.
On Wed., May 2 our 8th graders will have an assembly at 2:15pm and will feature our 7th/8th grade orchestra and the 8th grade band. Then at 7pm, our Spring Instrumental Concert is scheduled to take place in the cafeteria. Student, parents and community members are welcome to join us.
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that our annual Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 2 this year.
