The promotion of research and education on the subjects of local history and historic preservation; and encouraging citizen participation and cooperation with governmental and private groups in the furtherance of these objectives are another of MPI's primary goals. is located in the Historic Silver Spring B&O Railroad station, 8100 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md. The building is Montgomery County’s only 20th century railroad passenger station. To save it from demolition MPI purchased the property from CSX and led a community effort to raise the money to save this beloved landmark.
