🌸πŸͺ»πŸ‹ Watch Lemonade Turn Pink Using Violets!

Springwell students created a natural pH indicator from violet extract and used it to transform lemonade bright pink in real time.

Through hands-on exploration, students investigate acids, bases, and chemical reactions while practicing careful observation, testing ideas, and sharing discoveries.

At Springwell, learning often begins with curiosity β€” sometimes sparked by something as simple as a flower.

Lower Elementary Learning in Motion! πŸŒͺοΈπŸŒ€

πŸ“ ELA: Students in Lower Elementary practiced writing letters, sight words, and digraphs through playful, hands-on activities using flower connectors, Play-Doh, chalk, Legos, and kinetic sand. They connected their Forces and Motion science unit to writing by using words such as push, pull, soft, hard, and shift.

πŸŽοΈπŸ’¨ Math: Students extended their Forces and Motion learning by comparing how fast toy cars traveled on different tracks. Using blue dots, they measured and compared distances, created math problems, and discussed how heights and loops affected speed.

πŸͺ¨πŸŒΏ Students explored how texture and weight influence motion by testing marbles, rocks, cubes, clipboards, and containers on different surfaces. Using K’NEX mobiles, students investigated pushing and pulling, discovering that light, smooth, or soft objects move more easily than heavy or bumpy ones. We compared movement across carpet, grass, sidewalks, and pavement, noticing that smooth surfaces, and slopes help objects travel further.

What better way to learn about Earth, Space, and Systems than to go there ourselves? Not actually--but through simulations and video games the Middle and 9th Grade class have been designing, testing, stimulating, and launching their own rocket! πŸš€

The students are applying concepts like budgeting, making project proposals, design and engineering, the iterative process, and many ways of how not to build a rocket.

Included are some pictures of our planning process, screenshots of another game we used to learn about our solar system (Elite Dangerous), designing the satellite in Kerbal Space Program, and an illustration of the satellite we designed drawn by one of our own students! ✍🏼
