With the exception of the Eisenhower and Sacagewea dollar coins, most of the coins I use have been my pocket change. Pennies, nickles, and dimes are the perfect size for earrings and bracelets, and the larger coins are great for high level of complexity such as the flower of life. Each coin is individually hand cut using a jewelers saw and and a very fine saw blade.

The one that started it all. My very first experience with cut coins was with one of these British half pennies. It caught my eye as I was passing by, and sparked a new path that could never be scripted. I would stop by and admire it every time he came and set up.
Yarlen would come into the swap meet from time to time, selling his old inventory hoping for the weeks needs to be met. I had seen him a few times before, his distinct Popeye look and vagabond demeanor making a unique impression. Such an odd fellow. He had 3 or 4 cases he would lay out on his tailgate. No flash. No artifice. Just raw "here I am this is me take it or leave it" energy. That was as interesting as his work. He had several nice pieces, but this one stood out. It was full detail. No blocked letters. Nothing left out. Nothing left in. A masters piece indeed. It had gold plated highlights. The rigging. The water. Very tasteful and it captivated me. I would go see "Andy" and his coins every time he would show up. This coin sparked the fire.
I have never cut it before. This is my first one. For years I was very intimidated. I even attempted to think about it a few times but always set it aside. So now, finally as I approach 10,000 coins of my own work since first laying eyes on it, I figured it was well overdue. I think I will add the gold plate highlights and complete the look.
