One of the most common problems I see—and one of the most preventable—is failing to keep water away from the foundation.

In this video, a downspout was discharging right next to the home instead of carrying water away. Over time, repeated saturation of the soil likely contributed to settlement and visible foundation cracking.

Water around the foundation can lead to:
• Soil movement and settlement
• Foundation cracks
• Moisture intrusion into basements or crawlspaces
• Uneven floors or sticking doors/windows
• Costly structural repairs over time

The good news is many of these issues start with simple drainage corrections like extending downspouts, improving grading, and managing roof runoff properly.

Small water problems today can become major foundation problems tomorrow.
