Watching the footage of the massive fire at Smithville Plaza today is absolutely heartbreaking. This strip mall is home to so many familiar faces and local favorites like Pizza Shoppe, Westlake Chinese, Smoke Shop, La Fuente and H&R Block.

While the loss of these buildings is a heavy blow the community, we are profoundly grateful to hear there have been no reported casualties. Buildings can be rebuilt, but neighbors cannot be replaced.

To the business owners, staff, and families affected by this: Smithville stands with you. Our deepest thanks go out to the brave crews battling the flames in this heat and the first responders keeping the area safe.
