Your dog doesn't know you are trying your best

Choosing a dog training program shouldn't feel like buying a new phone.

Private lessons.
Board & Train.
Day Training.
Group classes.
Online courses.

Everyone wants to know which one is best.

The truth is...

They're all good at different things.

The biggest mistake I see isn't choosing the "wrong trainer."

It's choosing a program that doesn't fit your life.

If you're motivated, curious, and excited to learn alongside your dog, private lessons can be incredibly rewarding.

But if you're already at your breaking point...
If every walk leaves you emotionally drained...
If your reactive dog has become one more thing on an already overwhelming to-do list...

A program that depends on you doing all the heavy lifting may leave you feeling even more defeated.

The right training program should reduce stress, not add to it.

That's why I don't believe every client belongs in the same service.

The best investment isn't always the cheapest.
It isn't always the most expensive either.

It's the program that gives you the greatest chance of following through and making lasting progress.

If you're a Johnston County, NC dog parent and you're not sure which training program is the best fit for you and your reactive dog, send me a message. I'd be happy to help you figure out where to start.

It's always harder to train your own dog...

"I've tried every enrichment idea I can find..."

That's something I hear all the time.

Lick mats. Frozen Kongs. Snuffle mats. Puzzle toys.

And those things absolutely have a place.

But somewhere along the way, we started treating food enrichment as if it was the same thing as fulfillment.

They're not.

A Border Collie wasn't bred to solve a frozen Kong.
A Beagle wasn't bred to lick peanut butter.
A German Shepherd wasn't bred to sniff treats out of a towel.

Those activities can be great additions to your dog's routine, but they don't replace opportunities to use the instincts your dog was selectively bred for.

When those instincts don't have an appropriate outlet, dogs often create one of their own.

Sometimes that looks like chasing.
Sometimes it looks like barking.
Sometimes it looks like guarding.
Sometimes it looks like reactivity.

Breed fulfillment isn't a cure for reactivity. Reactivity is complex, and it's rarely caused by just one thing.

But for many dogs, it's one of the missing pieces.
And when you start meeting the need underneath the behavior, training often becomes a whole lot easier.

If you're a Johnston County NC dog parent whose reactive dog has you feeling stuck, I'd love to help you figure out what's actually driving their behavior and build a plan that's tailored to your dog.

What breed is your dog, and what job do you think they were bred to do? How do you think that instinct shows up in their reactive behavior?👇
