In praise of the blu

They get little thanks, little praise but they are the most important people on the field. Without the home plate ump there is literally no game.
People love to complain, they love to gripe, pass by any park bench and if you see 2 or 3 men sitting together, chances are they are complaining
But the fact is there has been very little to complain about from the umpires at this LLWS, except for a pitch or two they have been spot on.
Many of the managers don’t even bother to go to the video review because the ump have been right on every challenge.
As they are volunteers , and you know what I say about volunteers- The work is hard , the pay is lousy but the rewards are many -
So if we are quick to criticize them when they are missing calls , shouldn’t we praise them when they are doing a just about perfect job.
There is a euphemism in the broadcast booth. Of every llws , when an umpire blows a call the announcers say - “well, they are all volunteers”

People watching from home this year don’t even realize they are volunteers because the announcers haven’t said it once. Maybe they should .
