Memorial Elementary School celebrated its 5th graders today with an awards banquet. Many students received certificates honoring their academic achievements in math, science and reading.

Throughout this school year, Deputy Stewart, who is assigned to Memorial Elementary, could be seen riding his skateboard around campus. At the conclusion of today’s banquet, Deputy Stewart made the surprise announcement that he was going to present his skateboard — with custom artwork by Leif Smith — to one of the students. The names of all the 5th graders with a GPA of 3.5 or higher were put in a bucket. One was drawn out and that lucky student was Colton Buice.
