Congratulations, Manny!
Many of you may have come to know Manny over the years at RVC, whether through working with him or just being in community with him. We're excited to officially announce that Manny has taken on the position as our new Operations Support Program Strategy Director!
Who better to hear from than from the man himself about what this opportunity means for him and what he hopes to do in this new role. Read from the words of Manny below 👇🏼
✨ What does this new opportunity mean to you? ✨
This new opportunity means I get to show up for our all our partners, it means I get to engage with organizations in a more intentional way that will allow me to learn more about this. This will help me understand what is import to everyone on an individual level AND then use my skills to translate all that I learn into a larger vision for the Operations Support Program.
✨ What do you hope to do in this role? ✨
During my time in this role I hope to work with our team to help transform our Operational Support Program into a space that feels like community. Not only will I focus on learning from each of our partners but with each partner.
Our world is always changing and many of the crucial things our partners offer to community have been under attack lately. I want to work as a community to find ways to support each and every person regardless of barriers. This looks like understanding the landscape, political climate, and best practices to evolve system as needed. This will also allow RVC to be the solid support system for our partners. We can't do this without some joy. I have been able to witness the joy that RVC's partners bring to community and I will work to do the same.

Does the Washington state government cut blank checks for community orgs?
Definitely not. Honestly, it feels like grassroots orgs who are supporting our communities are constantly under scrutiny. Along with that scrutiny is an immense amount of responsibility to report on their programming and expenses.
Our partners at Collective Justice were interviewed by South Seattle Emerald to discuss how they feel about government funding:

The Roundup: Does the WA Government Really Cut Blank Checks? In this week's edition of The Roundup, Mike Davis talks to Tyra Edwards and Jess Rock from Collective Justice about what the organization does and how they feel about government funding.

Do black olives belong on nachos?
This was the core debate during our team happy hour at 's Lounge in Columbia City. After several weeks of coverage while some team members have been out, our team came together to let loose, nosh on some delicious eats, and just your classic good ol' team bonding.
