“Empathy is not just nice. It’s economic.” (Lutz). Today Lubica Lutz lead an inspiring presentation for Fundamentals for Startups on the benefits of empathy within a company and the importance of listening to consumers. Participants were excited to collaborate to discuss their personal startup ideas and share improvements.

“The amount of money a company raises doesn’t directly correlate to how well the business will do. Focus on your product and customer” said Ken Aragon, the moderator of today’s Fundamentals for Startups. This week, entrepreneurs Aadil Diwan, Daniel Montoya, Ken Aragon, and Tom Gurski came together to discuss the misconceptions of venture capital funding and how to find different funding options while still maintaining control of the creative process.

“When something is working, lean in and push the chips in,” said Rich Barton at last night’s . With Olly Downs moderating, and a full house, the event was inspiring for startups as well as people from all walks of life.

Barton told stories about his background, his successes and failures, and experiences while leading Expedia, Glassdoor, and Zillow. He also talked about what makes a good board member and shared this insight about leadership: "Disappearing is a great leadership development tool--leaders emerge when you're not accessible." A few lucky audience members were able to ask questions, and we all learned about a super effective tip for productive meetings (spoiler alert: it's not a PowerPoint deck).
