Our Executive Director, Malou Chávez, joined Governor Bob Ferguson and Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown in Tacoma on April 28, along with many of our community partners.

Our Executive Director, Malou Chávez, shared that "Beyond the legal challenges and due process slipping away, our client communities are facing dire conditions [detained in ICE custody]. Some of our clients, even when immigration relief is won, are forced to remain detained while the government appeals their case. Others, give up on their defense all together because of the conditions they face and the inevitable mental health toll detention imposes."

A message from Governor Bob Ferguson:

"Today, I announced we're seeking a court order to permit health inspections at Northwest ICE Processing Center."

"The law is clear: We have the legal authority. GEO Group has obstructed our efforts."

"We've beaten GEO in court before, and we'll beat them again."
