🏳️🌈HAPPY LE***AN VISIBILITY WEEK! 🌈
When I re-wrote Todrick Hall’s “I Like Boys” on a whim in my little room for rent in Livermore, CA, I had no idea the impact or reach it would have around the globe.
Today I may seem like a rainbow wearing, Subaru tattoo having, confident (yet anxious) gay gal, but it hasn’t always been this way.
I used to hide who I was. Make myself smaller for the people I thought loved me. Shrink, soften, edit, apologize. All to be palatable to people who were never going to choose me anyway.
But love is not conditional. Love doesn’t say “Morgan, you’re dead to me.” Love is my chosen family, the people who see me and value me for every gay little piece of who I am.
Here’s what I know now that I wish I’d known then: your visibility is not just for you. Somewhere out there is a girl scared to take up space, convinced she has to make herself smaller to be loved. She needs to see you living. Not perfectly, not without anxiety, not without scars… just living. Out loud. In color. Driving the Subaru (😉).
So this week and every week; wear the rainbow. Hold her hand in public. Post the picture. Tell the story. Be the proof that the life on the other side of hiding is real and it’s so much bigger than the version of yourself you were told to settle for.
To every q***r woman who came before me, beside me and after me: I see you. I love you. You are not too much. You were never too much.
Remix of “I Like Girls” by coming May 15th.
