A Film Screening of Sugihara Survivors and Panel Discussion with Director Junichi Kajioka
Join us for a panel discussion and screening of two films about Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara.
Date and time: Monday, July 29, 6:30pm – (doors open at 5:45pm)
Venue: Broadway Performing Center at Seattle Central College
Please RSVP at https://sugiharaseattle.eventbrite.com. Admission is free but seats are limited.
Prior to the event, we have an opportunity to speak with the director of one of the films, Mr. Junichi Kajioka, with light refreshments served, starting at 5:45pm.
Mr. Sugihara served as Vice Consul in Kaunas, Lithuania during the Second World War and helped thousands of Jews flee Europe by issuing transit visas to them so that they could travel through Japanese territory. The first movie, Sugihara Survivors, is a short documentary that depicts a person’s journey to discover what became of those refugees after the war. The second movie, Persona Non Grata, is a 2015 Japanese biographical film that not only depicts Sugihara’s actions during WWII, but also portrays his life and struggles.
