With the schedule releasing a week or so ago, I figured that I could give myself something to laugh at next February, by releasing some way-too-early predictions. After releasing my full predictions for the regular season, both AFC and NFC, I figured I’d cap it off with the playoffs. Again, if you didn’t see my other prediction posts, yes, I know some of these predictions are bold. Since all predictions are going to wind up being wrong, I figured why not create a more interesting hypothetical scenario. In this universe, I have the New Orleans Saints finally getting over the playoff curse that has haunted them the past few years, and winning the Super Bowl, defeating the Buffalo Bills. That roster just has so much talent, and has gotten so unlucky over the past few years. It has to work out sometime, right? How do you feel about my too-early, gut-feeling predictions? Who do you have winning Super Bowl LV?

According to Adam Schefter, the Seahawks have reached an agreement with veteran HB Carlos Hyde. This wasn’t exactly a surprise, rumors around both Hyde and Devonta Freeman were swirling around the past few days, as Penny may not be back to start the season. This signing just gives us some insurance. Since the contract details are not out yet, I’m gonna have to wait and see how much we paid for him before I form a solid opinion. I do like going with Hyde over Freeman, however, because Hyde had a better season last year, and because the reported contract Freeman was requesting was around 4-5 million. That’s too much for an insurance HB. So if we get Hyde on a budget, I’ll be happy with that. What do you think of this move?

The Seahawks have brought back another player from last year, with this re-signing filling in as our backup quarterback. Geno Smith has been brought back on a one-year deal, likely for the veteran’s minimum. I thought we would just ride with Anthony Gordon as our backup for the younger, cheaper option, but it’s good to have a competition, and Geno’s experience could be a valuable asset. It’ll make the preseason more exciting at least. It’ll be interesting to see whether they keep three quarterbacks, or if Smith or Gordon gets cut. While this move means pretty much nothing for the regular season, I love those oh-so-juicy preseason storylines. What do you think of this move?

With the end of the 2010s, and my personal team of the decade series coming out, I decided to create a fan-voted team as well, comprising of the best 53 Seahawks of the decade. Today, we look at Linebackers. This list differs quite a bit from mine, at least for the backup roles. I think that is just due to recency bias. Players from the first few years who were solid starters like Hill and Hawthorne were ignored here, probably because they haven’t been on the team in so long. Coyle and Morgan are probably more recognizable names at this point, but I’d rather have Hill/Hawthorne. This roster is filled out with regular NFL roster restrictions, 53 players on the team. Let me know your LB choices.
