There’s a particular feeling in a room full of readers—when a writer says something that lands, and you can feel hundreds of people listening more deeply and remembering what it means to be human together.

As school winds down, we celebrated the work and creativity of young minds during the WITS Year End Reading! Thank you writers for sharing your passion, stories, humor, kindness, righteous insights into the world, and your inner dialogues with us. Thank you to the families, friends, and teachers who came out to support these brave readers. Whether this next generation chooses to be artists or take their talents elsewhere, we are hopeful that WITS awakens how they can express themselves ❤️

We were delighted to bring Anne her flowers and recognize her as SAL's 2026 Volunteer of the Year! 🥳💐 Anne is very flexible and dependable, is willing to take on any task she is given, and does so with a smile and great attitude. She always looks forward to trying something new; she observes what our patrons need and provides it for them. She embodies a welcoming and joyful presence in whatever role she plays in our literary events and our fundraising galas. She is a calm presence during busy events, and she helps to make sure that everyone belongs at SAL. Anne, you are a true volunteer match made in heaven!

Please say hi to Anne at the next event you see her! 👋

The 2025-26 school year is coming to a close and we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of our Writers in the Schools staff this past school year! In this year alone, 20 WITS writers were able to serve more than 6,000 students across 37 public schools and 2 Seattle Children's Hospital departments. Writing as expression is a lifelong skill that we are happy to be building with educators and WITS writers. Thank you to the thousands of young people who trust the program and bravely share their voices and words through WITS!
