Before the City of Charlotte Government's North Tryon Street Business Corridor received a makeover, the streetscape was lacking in landscaping and environmental design features seen elsewhere in the City. In some places on the corridor was a top concern: travel lanes were too narrow, there was no space for left turn lanes, and did not have adequate planting strips to buffer from moving traffic. In the final condition, the project significantly improved the pedestrian environment, including revegetating 71% of the corridor using native or adapted and non-invasive shrubs and grasses, plus 198 new trees.
