Destroying/Rebuilding my diorama, part 6: Mini glasses tutorial
A quick tutorial on how I made the 1/12 scale miniature cat eye wire-rimmed librarian glasses for my diorama, plus a glimpse of Pearl 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 wearing her own version of librarian glasses!
𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱:
20 gauge wire (about 4”/10cm)
round nose pliers
flat nose pliers
nonstick mat
uv-cured top coat nail gel
uv lamp
X-Acto knife
fine grit sandpaper (~320)
Destroying/Rebuilding my diorama, part 5: Sculpting Miss Pearl
I’m so happy I decided to re-make Miss Pearl, the anglerfish librarian of the night! I’m hoping she will be a character that really brings soul to this whole project.
I started with a loose ball of aluminum foil as an armature, covered that with creative paper clay, added some armature wire to support the fins, wooden toothpicks for teeth, then drilled a hole to add a flickering LED pico light from (best lights & customer service ever!) inside a shrink tube with an added thin wire.
Next is deciding what color to paint her…
Destroying/Rebuilding my diorama, part 4: I think I need a consult!
I made my own iron acetate wood stain (rusty vinegar magic potion for miniatures! See previous reel for how to make). This reel shows how the stain looks on basswood with and without added tannins from tea, and now I’m trying to decide how dark to go for the diorama rebuild. The lighter version is warmer, keeps more of the wood grain and feels softer, but the darker stain has a moody, aged, slightly haunted quality that I love.
Destroying & Rebuilding My Diorama, Part 3 || Tutorial + tiny science experiment: I made DIY iron acetate wood stain with steel wool and vinegar, then tested how it reacts with tannins to ebonize wood.
The results are beautiful—perfect for miniature woodworking!
(I said “tannins” a concerning number of times in this video, but in my defense, they DO steal the show here!)

It’s tiny demolition day! “The Haunted Books || Unhook Bad Teeths” is a diorama I originally created to exhibit at the Mount Vernon Library Commons. It’s full of anagrams and Dewey decimal clues, and tiny spooky references—it was such a fun piece to make & share with the community! But I decided it needs a reset. The good parts are being rescued. Pearl the anglerfish night time librarian has officially been released from her duties. 🫡
Sometimes the best way forward is to start over! I’m hoping I made the right choice here, but I’m sure I will learn from the process. Can any of you relate? If you’re curious where this will go, follow along!❤️😅

I've never shared before that the werewolf fireplace in my dollhouse is actually modeled after my childhood fireplace in my family home. So for the first time, here are pictures of me throughout the years in front of our cozy fireplace. ❤️👹🐾👣 (APRIL FOOLS!)
