No Instagram for the month of July did me well.

I escaped this island to another one with new friends and treasured ones.

I felt free like the freak I am.

All the way from Saipan, Marco came to visit, finished his dissertation and is now helping my love finish hers.

I camped alone and it filled me up.

Cardin and Brandon and baby came to visit, and we lounged and laughed and filled up on friendship and chosen family.

I felt the sun. I walked in the dry grass and was alive.

I saw with Jess and Tom and I slapped my leg laughing so hard.

I bought a cd player at a vintage mall and started listening to my high school + college mixtapes from friends, lovers, should have been lovers, and my own inner lover.

Sky kept me accountable to stay off the gram and connected me with other freaks I dig.

We saw a play at the park. And by we I mean, my PEOPLE: Vic Taylor Souk Taylor and Scott.

We had crawfish 🦞, well, I ate 2 and yes they were tasty and no I could not eat more because I’m a wimpy creature lover.

Taylor + Vic + I built a fence! Almost, we’re close :) Ok, and mostly Taylor . This talented sweetie.

I painted just for kicks.

I published 5 substacks and I’m sticking to it! Please find me on substack, sign up for a paid subscription, and help me quit the job that sucked my soul this summer.

I did lots of tarot, for me, for you, for friends.

I collaged funny things for funny reasons.

I drew the land for new friends who shared it with us.

I didn’t miss Instagram, I just craved the addiction of scrolling, found myself pinning things I like on Pinterest, and remembered what life was like before this massively addictive social media platform.

I thought about how I should return to “here.” Just business? Turn off comments? I still don’t know. But I do feel well. And that is what I’m seeking to maintain amidst the share and overshare culture I’ve participated in for so many years.

I like real life.
