Today is my last day in TV news after 14 in the business and 3 at KING 5 in Seattle (plus KENS 5 in San Antonio, KOB 4 in Albuquerque and NBC News in New York). I couldn’t be more grateful to every person who trusted me to help share their story or to the colleagues I spent long days, late nights, holidays and life moments with. You became my teachers, my best friends and in some cases, my family.

TV news is a business, but journalism is a calling. The work is often deeply personal; people have enough grace to share their time and truths and heart and soul, sometimes on their worst days and others on their best. My worldview is wider and my heart is fuller because of the people I met.

It’s wild to look back and realize I covered, on average, a story each day for a decade. In classrooms and courtrooms and living rooms and blizzards; in New York and New Mexico and Texas and Washington. I listened to thousands of people in hundreds of places as they taught, celebrated, mourned and pulled from wells of strength.

If I’ve come out of it knowing anything, for sure, it’s that most people are good, and just doing their best. Compassion is key, and you’ll never regret kindness. I have been the recipient of so much of both over the course of this career.

I am planning to stay in Seattle, where I’m set to keep telling stories – hopefully, those that will make a positive difference. More on that to come, but for now, thank you.
