C-section Scars and Postpartum Recovery
Struggling with pelvic pain, hip pain, low back pain, incontinence, pain during or after s*x, changes in digestive functions, or worsened PMS after your c-section? These symptoms are often due to rogue scar tissue that developed as your incision healed.
Like most surgeries, c-sections leave behind a scar. While we think of scars as occurring on the surface of the skin, scar tissue also forms underneath the skin. When this happens, it can cause what we call a “fascial adhesion” — tiny threads of connective tissue that attach from the scar/skin/surface onto the body structures below. When the scar occurs over the abdomen, like in the case of c-section surgery, the symptoms that develop from scar adhesion can be quite complex. These adhesions restrict motion and can cause significant issues, including pelvic, hip, and low back pain, changes in our bowel movements, incontinence, pain during or after s*x, changes to our menstrual cycle including worsened PMS.
There are so many preventative steps we can take early on in the c-section recovery period that can set you up for better healing and long term pelvic health. There are also incredible therapies that can resolve these nagging symptoms weeks to *decades* after your c-section occurred.
