DUST: Poems for the Vanished by Glenn Mitsui and Brandon Shimoda w/ Q&A
Join the Wakasa Memorial Committee for a live Zoom teach-in on Saturday, January 10th, 2026 at 10:00 AM PST with poet Brandon Shimoda and filmmaker/visual artist Glenn Mitsui. They will discuss the creative process behind DUST, a visual poem film honoring eight men shot and killed by military police while imprisoned in U.S. concentration camps during World War II, and why this film needed to be made now. The conversation will explore collaboration across poetry and image, memory as resistance, and how geography has been used to silence violence—then and today. Open to all. Zoom info is in the comments.

What an honor for Arlene and I to work on this project with Rod, Brysen, Hocine, and the entire FRESHH crew. FRESHH is now open inside Beacon Space Dance Studio. They serve incredible onigiri, smoothies, coffee, and bowls, all within an amazing, welcoming vibe. Please support them, go for the eats, stay for the beats, and give your respects to Dripzilla, the official mascot of FRESHH.
