This week, our partners at Nordic Northwest welcomed His Excellency Jesper Møller Sørensen, Ambassador of Denmark to the United States, for an intimate event to celebrate 225 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations between Denmark and the United States. The event also served as a welcoming event for the new Danish Honorary Consul for Oregon, Jesper Angelo, and Nordic Northwest's new Executive Director, Andrew Haight!

The reception gathered the Danish-American community in Oregon, leaders of Danish organizations including Philip Lund, the President of the Museum of Danish America and Danish Honorary Consul for WA, Mark Schleck. Scan Design Foundation Staff attended along with other business and government representatives who were attending the regional Industrial Symbiosis Conference by Center for Sustainable Infrastructure.

It was a lovely evening of hygge and Danish and English conversations.

What an honor it was for us to be a part of this exceptional conference. Thank you to our partners at CSI for their groundbreaking work!

It wasn't just that ours was the first Industrial Symbiosis conference ever held in the United States...

Or that over 250 I.S. leaders and the I.S.-curious from all over the West converged in Vancouver, WA to discuss technology, feedstocks, end-products, and financing of multi-benefit infrastructure partnerships...

Or that our partners in this groundbreaking work from Denmark arrived en masse and helped explore practical, imaginative solutions...

Or that the Ambassador from Denmark to the U.S. and Washington Lt. Governor Denny Heck put a metaphorical bow on the event when they stopped by Tuesday morning to announce a formal Industrial Symbiosis partnership between the two governments...

It was all of these things AND the palpable buzz all three days as everyone learned and imagined something new...and possible!

We are grateful to our partners at State of Green Denmark
Kalundborg Symbiosis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Washington State Department of Commerce, Scan Design Foundation, and all of our sponsors for helping us bring over 250 people together to work on smart solutions for our economies, communities, workers, and environment.
