“Deep in the Woods” - the 1935 kidnapping of nine-year-old George Weyerhaeuser, heir to America's mightiest timber dynasty, was “a crime even the FBI must have considered fantastic and absurd.” In his latest book, author, former movie review, and multi-Emmy winner Bryan Johnston investigates the biggest manhunt in Northwest history and its astonishing conclusion.

is TODAY! Washington’s biggest single day of giving is underway, bringing us closer to the society we want to live in.
This year, help the Southwest Seattle Historical Society achieve our vision to transform how people experience the Log House Museum!
In 2024, SWSHS received an inaugural grant from Maritime Washington National Heritage Area to pursue planning for a permanent, interactive exhibition at the Log House Museum, a central feature of our 2024-2026 Strategic Plan.
SWSHS completed planning as facilitated by freelance exhibit designer Chris Erlich and supported by an advisory committee.
Consider donating today to fund our vision to install an interactive exhibition that: connects the stories SWSHS tells to visitors’ own waterfront experiences; prioritizes the display of artifacts; highlights stories of placemaking by diverse communities across the Duwamish Peninsula; includes major work on our Native Plant Garden; and positions the Log House Museum as a must-see regional attraction!
Washington Gives is a statewide giving campaign where individuals and organizations come together across Washington to invest in our communities. was started by the Seattle Foundation in 2011 and transferred to 501 Commons in 2018. Since its inception, nonprofits have raised nearly $200 million.
