We’re falling head over heels (fainting, even!) that we get to commission these playwrights to bring new life to three of Chekhov’s short plays. This Giving Tuesday, we’re raising $4,000 to support their work. Link to donate is in our bio! Thank you for your continued support.

The Devil went down to Moscow...1930’s Soviet era Moscow that is. The Master is missing. His novel about Pontius Pilate was rejected, and he himself has disappeared. To find her lover, Margarita must embark on a journey that will bring her into contact with a mysterious foreigner and his otherworldly crew. This gothic Soviet fairytale, full of magical realism, and satire of greed and corruption is a sometimes charming, sometimes bewildering, always hilarious ride through a strange, but all too recognizable world.
Directed by Mike Lion, “The Master and Margarita” is a fairy-tale about greed, cowardice, censorship and, at the center of it all, one remarkable woman: Margarita, who undertakes the unthinkable to rescue her lover. This classic novel was written in the 1930s under the USSR and was originally disseminated underground because of its anti-totalitarian themes. Its complex, weaving plot was adapted by director Mike Lion for modern audiences, while still remaining true to the Russian sensibilities pervading the text.
The Master and Margarita is Dacha’s latest tra-daption (translation + adaptation!) of a classic literary work, reimagined for the stage with delight and glory. This production will indeed highlight physical theater, using clowning, puppetry and a movement ensemble to capture the sprawling world of the show.
