You don’t know Seattle songwriters if you don’t know about @katiekuffel. This local lyrical treasure is a goldmine of wit and whimsy, delivering verses about hope and excitement with as much authenticity as she does letdown and confusion. Every line Katie sings carries with it a weight of pointed personal experience, without ever alienating the listener - in fact, quite the opposite. Every refrain is an invitation for her listeners to think and feel and experience right along with her.

Her performance at Sage Arts was no exception. Kuffel’s ethereal playing immediately sets a melancholic field through which the listener is invited - no, expected to journey through. Her chord choice is inspired, providing just enough stability for us to feel comfortable and yet still be surprised when she decides it’s time to deliver some delicious lyrical quip or another. The melodic construction is familiar and comfortable, but not predictable, delivered with a thoughtfulness and intentionality that results in an undulating sea of cadence and motion, lulling us into a magical sense of peace.

@j_r_d_n_ has again delivered an incredibly rich and compelling recording and mix of the Sage Arts space, rendering the most delicate intricacies of Katie’s performance and placing us as listeners right beside her from wherever we find ourselves.

Please, pour yourself a cup of your favorite coffee or tea and enjoy WINDOWSILL by KATIE KUFFEL.

Big Updates:

1. If you haven’t heard, my Kickstarter reached its goal this past weekend. I haven’t had a single moment to process it yet, but the feelings are big, the gratitude bigger. I have pledges open still, so if you want some Cool Swag or a Vinyl once it’s out, click the link in my bio or got to bit.ly/katiekuffel

2. I leave tomorrow (Halloween, baby!) to Nashville to record at with and a bunch of other amazing and lovely humans. I’m there for 10 days, and I’m trying to focus up, get centered, and let the rest of my life be on pause while I’m there so I can focus on making something I’m proud of. Easier said than done - it can be hard to stop spinning plates.

3. I’ve been grinding my teeth a lot (stress probs). Tips? Tricks? How do I make my jaw chill the heck out?

4. My team for the ( ) Seattle 48 hour horror film competition had a screening this evening (I did all the scary music and foley work) and we got voted audience favorite for our group 🫣 we’ll go to the awards ceremony later this month.

Good things, big things, I cannot stress enough how grateful I am for these opportunities to make art. Thank you for helping me have this, and for letting me share it.

Much love,
Katie
