Did you see Enki at the Fremont Solstice Parade this past weekend? ☀️
Enki—known later as Ea—was not just the Sumerian God of water, but also of wisdom, creation, and the subtle balance that makes life possible. He is the keeper of the deep waters - the unseen veins beneath your feet—the Abzu from which all life rises.
Enki might say, "Before your cities, before your laws, there was water. Not as a resource, but as a covenant. You drink from it, yet you do not ask what it remembers. Do not think yourselves separate from this cycle. You are vessels of water as much as you are shapers of clay. To defile water is to unmake yourselves." (I personally like these because of the idea that water remembers everything!)
Enki was created by a group of Port Townsend artists in 2019. This was his first appearance to represent Puget Soundkeeper in Seattle at this year's Fremont Solstice Parade.
