Gabalfa (pronounced ɡəˈbælvə) is a small community north of Cardiff, Wales. In Welsh, its name is roughly translated as “place to meet the ferry” as it was once the location for a ferry crossing to take passengers across the river Taff. She grew up in a council house in Gabalfa, the rough equivalent to growing up in the projects here in the US. Much as Gabalfa was once a place from which to be transported, we hope you find that our books will do the same and transport you as readers.
