The First Win โ€” Stopping expiration losses: An analysis of how VueMed's technology solutions prevent expirations in an Interventional Radiology department.

๐Œ๐€๐ˆ๐ ๐“๐€๐Š๐„๐€๐–๐€๐˜:

โ€ข Once you can see waste, you can start preventing it โ€” and expiration is the most preventable form, because you know the date in advance
โ€ข IR departments carry a wide mix of specialty devices (stents, coils, catheters, guidewires) with varying shelf lives, making expiration tracking especially important

๐Š๐„๐˜ ๐ƒ๐€๐“๐€ ๐๐Ž๐ˆ๐๐“๐’

โ€ข Expiring inventory value dropped ~40% over 12 months (~$250K โ†’ ~$149K)
โ€ข Expired removed value stayed flat and low โ€” less than 0.5% of total on-hand
โ€“ The flat line at the bottom means products are being used before they expire, not thrown away after
โ€ข The downward trend shows the IR team is proactively rotating stock, not just reporting on it

๐“๐‡๐„ ๐ˆ๐๐’๐ˆ๐†๐‡๐“

โ€ข IR departments carry a long tail of low-volume specialty items that are easy to lose track of โ€” exactly the items most likely to expire unnoticed
โ€ข VueTrack flags items approaching their expiry window so they get prioritized for upcoming cases
โ€ข The two-line gap tells the story: at-risk value goes down while actual losses stay flat. Thatโ€™s ~$100K in reduced at-risk inventory without adding staff

What percentage of your IR inventory expires before use? Do you know?

The Big Lever โ€” How we help our customers gather, analyze, and apply data to right-size inventory in their Cath Labs

MAIN TAKEAWAY:
โ€ข A Cath Lab carrying ~$1.4M in excess inventory above par was reduced to ~$264K over 12 months
โ€ข Cath Labs are high-volume, high-cost environments where par levels tend to creep up as buffer stock accumulates over time
โ€ข The fear with inventory reduction is always โ€œwhat if we donโ€™t have what we need?โ€ โ€” the steady on-hand line answers that directly

KEY DATA POINTS
โ€ข ~80% reduction in excess inventory above suggested par levels over 12 months
โ€ข Total on-hand value remained steady at ~$2.5M โ€” readiness was maintained while waste was cut
โ€ข VueTrackโ€™s algorithm analyzes consumption patterns and suggests par levels based on actual usage, not historical guesses

THE INSIGHT
โ€ข High case volume, physician preference items, and a wide device catalog make manual par optimization nearly impossible in a Cath Lab
โ€ข Data-driven par recommendations give supply chain teams evidence to adjust reorder quantities and reduce buffer stock with clinical confidence
โ€ข Over $1M in capital was tied up on shelves โ€” this frees it without compromising procedure readiness

๐Ÿ‘‰ When was the last time your Cath Labโ€™s par levels were reviewed against actual consumption data?

THE PROBLEM โ€” Waste you canโ€™t see: An analysis of products opened but not used in an electrophysiology lab

MAIN TAKEAWAY:

โ€ข In an EP Lab, high-value ablation catheters get opened for cases but never used on the patient โ€” at ~$8.5K per catheter, each incident is a significant loss

โ€ข This isnโ€™t theft or mismanagement โ€” itโ€™s a visibility gap in the clinical-to-supply-chain handoff

KEY DATA POINTS

โ€ข ~$25.5K in wasted value in a single month from 3 ablation catheters (~$8.5K each)

โ€ข Two categories of consumed waste: product defective (canโ€™t charge patient) and opened/not used (no charge included)

โ€ข Waste is sporadic, but high-value items create large spikes when it happens

THE INSIGHT

โ€ข Without item-level tracking, this waste is buried in aggregate supply costs โ€” no one knows which products, which cases, or how often

โ€ข VueTrack surfaces patterns at the individual product level so supply chain teams can see whatโ€™s being wasted, when, and why

โ€ข That specificity enables root cause conversations: Is it physician preference? Case cancellations? Packaging issues? Clinical workflow?

How does your EP Lab track consumed-but-not-billed items? Is anyone looking at this data?

๐Ÿ”” The latest report from the American Hospital Association highlights a growing reality:

โ–ธ Labor accounts for ~60% of hospital expenses
โ–ธ Workforce costs rose ~5.6% in 2025
โ–ธ Demand is increasing as patients become older and sicker

At the same time, workforce shortages persistโ€”meaning hospitals are asking more of already stretched teams.

One of the most overlooked opportunities?
โžก๏ธ Reducing time spent on manual inventory tasks

With VueStat, your teams spend dramatically less time spent on:
- Reordering and put-away
- Searching for supplies
- Printing, relabeling, and affixing labels
- Workflow disruptions due to missing items or wrong orders
- Handling returns due to wrong orders
- Manual inventory checks and bin scanning
- Traveling between sites to manage inventory

๐Ÿ‘‰ The result: less manual work, more time for higher-value activities like caring for patientsโ€”and reduced strain on staff.

In todayโ€™s environment, addressing labor isnโ€™t just about adding resources. Itโ€™s about removing friction from the work itself.

VueStat is not just improving inventory managementโ€”it is:
- Reducing labor burden
- Improving clinician experience
- Optimizing supply utilization
- Creating a scalable, data-driven supply chain model

ยซ First and foremost, our electronic shelf label solution, VueStat, replaces those paper labels on the front of all the bins.

Then we tie that into an ERP system and those updates are automatic. If there's a change to a product, if it's discontinued, if it's backordered, it doesn't matter where in the system that item is stocked, all of the ESLs will update automatically and simultaneously from the integration we have with the ERP system.

Nurse comes into a supply room to get a supply. If it's on backorder, or even if it's on order, the ESL screen shows them instantly that it's on order. They don't have to worry about it anymore. They walk in, they don't have to make a note of it and go talk to a supervisor, tell anybody that it's on order. Everyone knows that it is. ยป
