“Today, something (2020-25) brings together photographs from Tepepan, the southern neighbourhood in Mexico City where I grew up and where my parents still live. The title alludes to a diary entry by the Italian writer Cesare Pavese compiled in his book The Business of Living. On April 25th, 1936, feeling depressed and lacking inspiration, he simply wrote: “Today, nothing.” Pavese’s sentence can be interpreted as an effort to remain productive despite the creative difficulties of using everyday life as the raw material for art. Likewise, the neighbourhood we live in can significantly influence our sociopolitical awakening. This project is my attempt to capture how Tepepan has shaped me, focusing on idiosyncrasies and details that I believe carry cultural value, such as the variety of independent shops or the distinctiveness of living a block away from a major prison. The project also captures more abstract urban issues, such as the absence of communal spaces and the area’s uneven development.”

This year, for the first time, we had interns helping ARCADE with our operations. Our design interns hosted a showcase of all of the work that they did for ARCADE during their internship.

Go to our website to donate or become a member if you want to support our internship program.

We are so incredibly proud of everything that they accomplished this summer, and we are still obsessed with each of their projects. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of designers to be our very first set of interns.

Follow their work!
