🚨Students from Wallenpaupack Area Highschool's Protective Services Career and Technical Education class explore Scranton Emergency Services🚨

On December 5th, students from WAHS's protective services CTE Class were hosted by the Scranton Fire Department and Scranton Police Department to gain hands-on experience in the daily operations of Emergency Services within the City of Scranton.

Students got to tour Scranton Fire Headquarters, Police Headquarters, and the Safety Training Center, gaining practical insight in regard to equipment, techniques, and overall emergency operations.

The Scranton Fire Department also hosted two students from WAHS's Protective Services CTE Class on December 17th for a job shadow of the department.

The job shadow included a tour of Fire Headquarters, meetings with Department Officers, discussion of trainings firefighters go through, and other insights into daily operations of the Fire Department.

*UPDATE* Utilities are estimated to be returned by Mid-Late morning tomorrow, Sat. Nov. 15.

UGI Crews and the Scranton Fire Department are responding to a gas outage affecting homes in West Scranton. Utilities are estimated to be returned at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Sat., Nov.15.

Affected Streets include:
Mt. Vernon Ave.
W. Gibson St.
N. Sumner Ave.
Sterling St.
Farr St.
Dorothy St.
Euclid Ave.
N. main Ave.
Ravine St.

The problem is isolated, and UGI crews are working to repair the issue. UGI crews will be visiting affected residences in the coming hours to pin gas meters and provide electric heaters fro the night. UGI crews will be available throughout the weekend for residents still experiencing utility problems caused by this issue.

🏫The training never stops with the Scranton Fire Department🏫

Firefighters from the Scranton Fire Department attended the annual Structural Collapse Specialist Course (SCS) hosted by the Virginia Beach Fire Department and Virginia Task Force 2 Urban Search and Rescue Team, where they learned skills and techniques in structural collapse operations including Internal and External Shoring operations, Concrete breaching and breaking, practical crane operations and many others.

Assistant Chief Irwin also attended the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy's Fire Instructor Development (ZFID) class, learning tactics for planning and conducting each position needed for live-fire training, and reviewing applicable policies and procedures.

🚨🚨Over the weekend, Inspector Megotz, K-9 W’asyk, and Firefighters from Scranton Fire Department Truck-4 participated in the 14th annual touch-a-truck event held by the Junior League of Scranton in Nay Aug Park!

The event allowed kids of all ages to get up close and personal with firetrucks, construction equipment, military vehicles, K-9 Demo’s and other unique vehicles and equipment.
