**UPDATE ON PILE-UP NEAR SYRACUSE**

Where- I-81 in LaFayette near Exit 73

Why- Poor visibility and slippery roads

How Bad- 37 vehicles, including 3 tractor trailers

Injured- 8 transported to the hospital, 2 in serious condition.

No fatalities are expected.

Road is fully back open.

State Police say sudden 'snow squalls' blinded drivers and you can see the result.

For those who've never drove through Central New York in the winter, these squalls are common and dangerous.

I got caught on one on the Thruway many years ago near Syracuse and I was completely stuck... meaning, I couldn't see what was in front of me, but if I pulled over or tried to and stopped, I risked getting creamed by a car or truck that didn't see me stopped on the shoulder.

You end up going 20 miles per hour blind and hoping nothing hits you.

They are very dangerous.

We don't get mudslides, wildfires, hurricanes or many tornados... but... scary winter weather we do get upstate.
