Today we celebrated Pentecost- the arrival of the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended into Heaven. Pentacost fulfilled Jesus' promise: the Spirit came to be with believers and empower them for mission. The Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and a supernatural power given to the church to accomplish the Great Commission. Jesus told the disciples "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my witnesses... to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8)

There were three basic principles the early disciples used to grow the church: obey Jesus' instructions, wait and receive supernatural power from above (the Holy Spirit), and ground the message in Scripture and right action. Waiting in prayer (Acts 1) was essential: the disciples joined constantly in prayer while they waited for the gift. Pentecost transformed frightened followers into bold witnesses - startung with Peter's bold sermon and call to repentance, baptism, and reception of the Spirit.

We sang Do You Feel the Mountains Tremble as part of our honoring the Holy Spirit and the way He changes our lives. The chorus says:
And open up the doors
And let the music play
Let the streets resound with singing
Songs that bring Your hope
Songs that bring Your joy, joy
Dancers who dance upon injustice.
