A couple of our resident bulls, their offspring is hitting the ground almost daily and it’s driving us crazy with excitement! Spring is such an epic mixture of anticipation, working with up-and-down terrible weather, while watching last year’s hard work come forth in the form of calves bouncing around with mamas and weaned calves heading off to different parts of the country to their new homes. Keeping us way too busy (but, we love it.) Anyways… currently working on heifer sorted semen on these fellas! Stay tuned 🤞🏼

We had to call the Vet out this morning because Nutmeg had a calf stuck and breech. We thought for certain calf was dead, but to our relief she was alive. Thank you Dr. Carin and Darwin - you were our heroes today!

This is Bluestones Lizzy, out of one of my prettiest cows, Twinflower Isabel. She’s a granddaughter of Samhache Buide of Bairnsley, a direct daughter of Symbiosis Sir Finlay. I think she is going to have a lot of length and size like her mother. She’s got a beautiful yellow coat with white highlighting; just gorgeous! She is a good girl and I expect her to make a fantastic cow.

The girls were working with the yearling bulls today. The silver we are kinda waiting to see how he turns out to carry on our “Longmire line”, but I really like him so far. The yellow kinda thinking would be a good one for a grass beef operation- came in the heaviest at weaning with good muscling on just grass alone. Lots of really good productive genetics in his line. Letting these bulls develop before making final decision but we castrated A LOT of bull calves & hopefully these two are good enough to make bulls!

I get people asking me for deep reds - well, here she is! And they don’t get much better than this. This girl is as deep as she is wide, with a black muzzle ring (bus dubh) and the best thing about her is her disposition. She’s the friendliest and gentlest of all the 2025 heifer calves. One that the old me would have never sold, but the new me is trying hard to let some good ones go. She is going to be someone’s favorite cow!
