Siesta Key Rentals

🏝️ Settle a debate for us: Is Siesta Key REALLY an island?
We saw this argued in a local Facebook group recently, and honestly... both sides were kind of right. 😄
Here's the wild true story:
For most of its history, Siesta Key was a true barrier island — Gulf on one side, bay on the other, and Midnight Pass separating us from Casey Key to the south.
Then in 1983, Midnight Pass was filled in to protect two beachfront homes from erosion. Suddenly, Siesta Key and Casey Key were one continuous strip of land. For 40+ years, the "well, ACTUALLY it's not an island" crowd had a technicality on their side. 🤓
But nature had other plans. In fall 2024, Hurricanes Helene and Milton blew Midnight Pass wide open again — reconnecting the Gulf to Little Sarasota Bay for the first time in four decades. Locals celebrated with a boat parade. 🛥️
So as of today? Water on all four sides. Siesta Key is 100%, officially, an island again. 🌊
Who remembers fishing at Midnight Pass before it closed? Or have you been out to see it since it reopened? Tell us in the comments — we love the old Siesta Key stories. 👇
